The authors

Rob Bruijnzeels was trained as a librarian and has worked in various positions in the public library sector. Innovation has always been at the core of his work and he was the inventor and program manager of new initiatives, such as 'Libraries 2040', 'The Library of the 100 Talents' (a new concept for the children's library of the future), The Architecture of Knowledge (principles for library buildings of the future; in collaboration with NAi) and the LibrarySchool. Rob is a much sought-after international speaker about the future of libraries.

Joyce Sternheim has continued to develop future visions during her career as a librarian/policy advisor. She has written several vision documents for the Netherlands Public Library Association and was involved in the founding of the LibrarySchool. In addition, she has led several innovative projects, including the ‘StoryCoach' (Verhalencoach), which was awarded the Dutch Public Library Innovation Prize in 2011.

In November 2019, Joyce en Rob received the oeuvre award of the Victorine van Schaick Fund from the Royal Dutch Association of Information Professionals for 'their unwavering contributions in word and deed to Dutch public library work’.

Joyce and Rob are part of the Ministerie van Verbeelding (Ministry of Imagination), a design collective that also consists of architect Jan David Hanrath, designer Florian de Visser and cultural programmer Marien Brand. Together they create new ways of working, resulting in different library architecture.
